Significant flooding damage was caused by heavy rains in early August in several parts of North America. issued orders for rescue and recovery activities and toured the flooded locations via rubber boat in the seriously damaged areas.
I investigated the recent flood damage in important North Korean locations that face China across the Yalu River using Sentinel-2 satellite pictures from the European Space Agency. Owing to the rainy season, clouds covered over a large portion of the ground situation in the satellite photos, but I was still able to evaluate the situation in a few spots where the surface was visible through the clouds.
In North Pyongan and Yanggang provinces, the Yalu River overflowed with dark, murky water, widening the river and burying low-lying areas, including some villages. This was seen on satellite photographs.
