On April 26, 2025, Kelly Komara, a standout from Lake Central High School, will be inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame as part of its 23rd Women’s Induction Class. This honor celebrates her exceptional contributions to basketball, both on and off the court.

Komara’s high school career was nothing short of remarkable. In her senior year, she led Lake Central to a 26-1 record and a Class 4A state runner-up finish, earning the prestigious title of Indiana Miss Basketball. Over four varsity seasons, she amassed 1,478 points, 435 assists, and 334 steals, guiding her team to four sectional titles, three regional championships, and two semi-state crowns.

Her collegiate journey at Purdue University further solidified her legacy. Komara played a pivotal role in Purdue’s back-to-back NCAA championship game appearances in 1999 and 2001, culminating in a national title in 1999. She earned All-Big Ten honors and was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in 2002. Her career statistics include 1,266 points, 402 assists, and 297 steals, making her one of the most decorated players in Purdue history.

Beyond her playing career, Komara has made significant strides as a coach. She has held coaching positions at institutions such as Auburn, Northwestern, Valparaiso, Albany, Vanderbilt, Marquette, and returned to Purdue in 2023 as an associate head coach. Her coaching acumen has been instrumental in developing top-tier talent and leading teams to postseason success.
