SO SAD: Pittsburgh Steelers QuarterBack, Russell Wilson is down again…

Russell Wilson miss the first half of Pittsburgh Steelers training camp with a calf strain.

The nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback is considered day-to-day. He was injured while pushing a sled while running Wednesday after reporting to his first camp at Saint Vincent College.

It has been, in coach Mike Tomlin’s words, “temporary frustration.”

“I hate not practicing,” Wilson said Friday. “(Tomlin) was laughing, he was like, ‘I’m enjoying this. You’ve got to wait a second,’ and all that. So, it was funny. I think the coach is only human, the coach and the coaches, they are very careful so nothing bad or nothing happens.”

Wilson, who is expected to start the season opener in Atlanta on September 8, claimed the strain is not life-threatening. “I would definitely go to a game if there was one. Without a doubt, Wilson stated. “All I’m doing is listening to what they want me to do. I make a daily effort to come back. Simply enjoy each day as it comes. That is the procedure.

On March 15, Wilson agreed to a $1.21 million, one-year contract. At the beginning of the 2019–20 season, on March 13, the Broncos cut him, incurring dead money of $85 million over the following two seasons. In his two seasons in Denver, the 35-year-old racked up 6,594 yards, 42 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions.

Entering his 13th season, Wilson co-manages a redesigned quarterback room alongside Justin Fields, a former first-round selection. Fields was taken by the Chicago Bears on March 16 after being selected 11th overall in the 2021 draft. On the day after Wilson signed his official contract, Philadelphia acquired Kenny Pickett, a 2022 first-round selection (choose No. 20). Josh Allen’s backup, Mitch Trubisky, made his way back to Buffalo. Tennessee is where Mason Rudolph signed.

Tennessee. Fields, 25, stated that he intends to maximize his first-team rep opportunities while Wilson is limited to spectator status. “Absolutely,” Fields responded on Thursday. “I absolutely tried to make the most of every single rep I received today. I’m just hoping for improvement tomorrow. Fields has shown sporadic bursts of exceptional talent. On Thursday, he had more luck connecting with Van Jefferson but failed to do so with George Pickens.

It appeared to continue on Friday morning. A few balls were hammered at the line for him, one by T.J. Watt and one by Cam Heyward. Fields then located Calvin Austin on the sidelines. A lob to Pickens, positioned down the seam between two defenders, came next. With a touch pass on a go-route to Pat Freiermuth, his day came to an end. Tomlin stated on Thursday, “It was a great chance for Justin and a test for our offensive unit to handle some early adversity.” “Everyone loves to get off to a smooth and flowing start, but football isn’t always like that, guy.

Therefore, I truly saw it as a positive thing for the group, a test for our offensive team, a chance to get to know Russ better, a way to cause him some temporary suffering, and a chance to help others. That is the tale there, then. Fields had a 10-28 record with 40 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in Chicago. Fields declared, “I’m not really changing anything.” “I just try to be consistent and come out here every day with the same guy.”

Wilson was nonetheless impressed. “He performed admirably,” Wilson remarked. “He’s up against a tremendously strong defense every play. He therefore creates some pretty amazing plays every day and replies to some plays with this and that. That is thus a component of practice. He’s performing admirably. He is a really skilled competitor. He has good processing. He is undoubtedly a very talented young man. Wilson, though, is dying to do more than just observe his probable backup.

“I wish to return now, rather than yesterday. Wilson remarked, “But the coach is like, ‘Listen, we got time here.'” We’re not trying to rush anything because I gained a lot of reps during the winter. I say we have twenty to twenty-one games left to play. “You must stay with us until 17.” “I’m guessing twenty-one, maybe twenty. You know, first place (at the conference)? That simply must be your way of thinking. I look forward to going to work each day.
