The incident occurred late in the third period of the Oilers’ 3-2 loss to the Canucks. McDavid delivered a high cross-check to Garland’s head, leading to a match penalty and an ensuing on-ice altercation. This suspension marks the second of McDavid’s NHL career; he was previously suspended in 2019 for an illegal check to the head of New York Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy. will be directed to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
