New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau makes surprising Announcing that Jalen Brunson has been made…
In a significant and somewhat unexpected move, New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau has announced that star point guard Jalen Brunson has been appointed as the team’s captain for the 2024–25 NBA season. This marks the first time the Knicks have named a captain since the 2018–19 season, when Lance Thomas held the role.
Brunson, who joined the Knicks in 2022, quickly established himself as a leader both on and off the court. In the previous season, he averaged 28.7 points, 6.7 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game, earning his first All-Star selection and finishing fifth in MVP voting. His performance was instrumental in leading the Knicks to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs for the second consecutive year.
Knicks President Leon Rose praised Brunson’s leadership qualities, stating, “Jalen is a natural-born leader, and I am confident he will continue to represent our organization, fans, city, and his teammates with the same heart, grit, and class that he has displayed each and every day since he came to New York.”
Brunson becomes the 36th captain in franchise history and only the fourth second-round pick to receive this honor, joining the ranks of Knicks legends like Willis Reed.
The appointment comes shortly after Brunson signed a four-year contract extension with the Knicks, further solidifying his commitment to the team and its future.
As the Knicks prepare for the upcoming season, Brunson’s leadership will be pivotal in guiding a team with renewed aspirations and a strong foundation
