FRIDAY SERMON: America/California/Los Angeles Wildfires; A Great Message to the World, by Gayle Benson

Brothers and sisters, as we reflect on the recent devastation caused by wildfires in California, particularly in Los Angeles, we are reminded of both the fragility of our world and the resilience of the human spirit. These fires, fierce and uncontrollable, have ravaged homes, communities, and landscapes, leaving devastation in their wake. But in the face of such overwhelming destruction, there lies a profound message that we must heed.

First, we must acknowledge the powerful connection we share with the environment. The wildfires are not simply a force of nature; they are a wake-up call to all of humanity. Our disregard for the delicate balance of nature and the overexploitation of natural resources have contributed to the increased frequency and severity of these fires. The impact of climate change is undeniable, and it is our collective responsibility to protect and nurture the Earth that sustains us.

Second, these fires highlight the importance of unity and compassion in times of crisis. Despite the chaos and devastation, we have witnessed countless acts of bravery, kindness, and solidarity. Firefighters, first responders, and ordinary citizens have come together to fight the flames and offer support to those affected. In these moments, we are reminded that we are all interconnected, and in the face of adversity, we must come together to rebuild and restore.

Lastly, let this tragedy remind us of the impermanence of life. Homes can be destroyed, possessions can be lost, but the strength of our community and the will to rebuild are eternal. The wildfires in California are not just a disaster; they are a powerful message that encourages us to reevaluate our values, to live with gratitude, and to always be mindful of the world around us.

May we all learn from these events and work together to protect our planet, our communities, and one another.
