“Enough of it I am fed up, have made up my…”GM Mickey Loomis Addresses Future with the Saints as Former NFL Legend unloads painful truth Following Team Owner Gayle Ben…
In a candid and emotional statement, New Orleans Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis announced his decision to retire, following a tumultuous period marked by constant criticism from fans and pundits. Loomis, who has been with the Saints for over two decades, revealed that the relentless barrage of insults had pushed him to the brink. His announcement came just days after team owner Gayle Benson made waves with the decision to appoint Drew Brees, the legendary quarterback, as the new GM.
Loomis, 67, expressed frustration with the public scrutiny he’s endured throughout his tenure. “Enough of it. I’m fed up,” Loomis declared in a press conference. “I’ve dedicated my entire career to this team, and all I’ve received is constant criticism. It’s painful, but it’s also motivating me to move on.”
Loomis played a pivotal role in the Saints’ success, including their Super Bowl XLIV victory, and helped build the team into perennial contenders. However, the past few years have been challenging, with roster struggles, an aging roster, and disappointing seasons.
The change in leadership with Brees stepping into the front office has only intensified the pressure on Loomis. While some have lauded the former quarterback’s potential to reshape the team, others view his appointment as a direct challenge to Loomis’ authority.
In his farewell message, Loomis reflected on his time with the Saints with pride but acknowledged that the ongoing negative feedback was no longer something he could endure. “I’ve always loved this city and this team, but it’s time for me to step aside,” he said. As the franchise enters a new era with Brees at the helm, the void left by Loomis’ departure will be hard to fill.
