”He was not really at fault.” Detroit lions film reviews what went wrong with Jared Goff team’s loss to Texans…

The Detroit Lions’ 2024 loss to the Houston Texans was a frustrating one, but upon closer film review, it’s clear that quarterback Jared Goff was not primarily to blame for the defeat. While Goff did face challenges during the game, the issues on offense were more related to missed opportunities, poor execution, and a lack of support from the surrounding pieces rather than any glaring mistakes by the veteran quarterback.

One of the biggest issues for Goff came from his offensive line, which struggled mightily against the Texans’ front seven. Houston’s pass rush consistently pressured Goff, forcing him to make quicker decisions than he’d have liked. The line’s inability to provide solid protection led to multiple hurried throws and disrupted timing, particularly in the second half. Goff was often forced to move off his spot or throw the ball earlier than planned, impacting the accuracy and rhythm of his passes.

While Goff did have some errant throws, many of his passes were on target. The bigger issue came from his receiving corps, which failed to capitalize on several key opportunities. Wide receivers, particularly Amon-Ra St. Brown and Marvin Jones Jr., dropped passes that would have extended drives and kept the offense on track. These missed chances put additional pressure on Goff and killed momentum when the Lions were poised to make a comeback.

Detroit’s offensive game plan, while creative at times, lacked consistency. At moments when Goff needed rhythm, the Lions’ play calling became too predictable or conservative. Running back David Montgomery’s injury also impacted the balance of the offense, with the Texans able to key in on Goff’s passing game without a potent ground threat to keep them honest.

Ultimately, the blame for the Lions’ loss shouldn’t fall squarely on Goff. While the quarterback didn’t play flawlessly, it was a combination of poor protection, dropped passes, and offensive inconsistencies that led to the defeat. Goff, despite the struggles, showed resilience, and with better support around him, he should return to form in the coming weeks.
