After the Portuguese GP loss Marc Marquez Angrily Announced His Resignation and Explain His Decision

March 25, PORTIMAO, Portugal — Marc Marquez of Gresini Racing accused Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati of causing the incident that occurred at the Portuguese Grand Prix on Sunday, which cost both riders valuable points in the MotoGP championship.

With three circuits remaining at the Algarve International Circuit, both riders were vying for fifth position when they made contact on a corner and crashed. Bagnaia was unable to continue the race, while Marquez finished 16th, barely outside the points.

Both six-time champion Marquez and the current leader Bagnaia accepted the MotoGP stewards’ decision to not reprimand either rider after they looked into the incident.

“I informed the stewards that this was a high-stakes racing incident.” However, the stewards have to determine the boundary, Marquez said reporters.

In my opinion, Pecco (Bagnaia) made a mistake, but it wasn’t limited to the event because he ultimately attempted to return. It was overly hopeful, and communication is possible. He was really hurting, particularly the back tires.

When there are only three or four laps left, you know that you will finish last. Therefore, it’s not required to return in that combative manner, but he made this decision, and Ducati will lose points as a result.

Although Bagnaia acknowledged that he was in difficulty since he lacked the speed to contend for a podium, he clarified that his effort at an overtaking was not dangerous.

What should you do if the cyclist you are competing with in front of you goes wide? Repass him to score further points. Thus, it wasn’t dangerous for me,” he stated.

“I made every effort to stay ahead, but Pedro (Acosta) moved too quickly when he got there. And Marc simply tried to pass when he got there, but he missed.

“I attempted to end the call. We clashed when he stepped beyond his line. I get upset over it, but it’s nothing unusual. We have to get on to the next racing event since this one is over.

Due to his catastrophic collision, Bagnaia dropped from first place in the championship to fourth place, 23 points behind the winner, Jorge Martin.
