Portland Trail Blazers Coach Chauncey Billups Announce His Resignation and Explain His Decision

Blazers general manager Joe Cronin stated on Monday that the team’s strategy is to focus mostly on developing young players rather than making aggressive efforts to sign expensive veterans who may require significant financial outlays.

At the team’s Tualatin practice facility, Cronin stated in departure interviews that “development will continue to be a focus” because of the team’s heavy investment in many of its young players. “Until some of those individuals are ready, we won’t be able to win at a really high level. However, we also have an obligation to provide them with the greatest conditions possible for growth. And frequently with extra assistance.
