Las Vegas Raiders’ Maxx Crosby Talks About Stepping Down his Career as he undergoes…

The NFL adjusts its rules every offseason.

This offseason, the league established a rule banning the “hip-drop tackle,” a defensive tactic in which a player grabs a ball carrier around the waist and twists them to the ground, increasing the danger of significant damage.

If a player is detected using the maneuver, an official will issue a 15-yard penalty. The regulation change was met with opposition from defensive players who believe there is nothing wrong with the tackle.

The idea of rule revisions came up on Las Vegas Raiders standout defensive end Maxx Crosby’s podcast, “The Rush with Maxx Crosby.” He discussed the rules he would want to see amended in the NFL.

“There’s certain things that you just can’t avoid on a football field,” said Crosby. “You’ve got dudes flying about at 100 mph. Your only goal is to prevent them from gaining ground. Certain things happen, such as when guys rush across the middle and get hit in the chest, but it is close to their head, and they still throw the flag. “You can’t do that.”

Crosby believes officials should only call certain penalties, such as roughing the passer, if the player clearly committed the infraction.

“I believe the most important thing is that it be egregious,” he stated. “Especially while roughing the passer. When someone is pushed against the quarterback’s knees, they will throw an f—ing flag for roughing, which is ridiculous. That is beyond your control. I believe that such situations require a degree of ambiguity. Even if it’s difficult, unless it’s outrageous, you should only call it when absolutely necessary.”

According to nflpenalties.com, Crosby received five penalties during the 2023 season, including a roughing the passer flag against the New England Patriots. Crosby hit Mac Jones in the back after he had released the ball, resulting in a penalty.
