BREAKING NEWS: New era begins for Arkansas Razorbacks as Athletic Director Remy Cofield announces new Coach following Sam Pittman’s Retirement message…

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A new chapter begins for Arkansas Razorbacks football as Athletic Director  Hunter Yurachek announced today that current defensive coordinator Travis Williams has been promoted to head coach, following the official retirement of longtime head coach Sam Pittman.

Pittman, who led the Razorbacks since 2020, announced his retirement earlier this week, closing out a tenure marked by grit, player development, and deep ties to the Arkansas community. Under his leadership, the Hogs returned to bowl game contention and built a culture grounded in toughness and unity.

Yurachek praised Pittman’s legacy while expressing confidence in Williams’ leadership. “Sam Pittman gave everything to this program and this state,” Yurachek said. “Today, we honor that legacy by continuing the momentum with a coach who shares his passion and vision.”

Travis Williams, a rising star in the college football coaching ranks, joined Arkansas in 2023 as defensive coordinator and quickly made his mark. Known for his energy, aggressive defensive schemes, and strong recruiting connections, Williams helped transform the Razorbacks’ defense into one of the most improved units in the SEC.

“I’m honored and humbled to be named head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks,” Williams said in a statement. “This program means a great deal to me, and I’m ready to build something special with these young men, this staff, and the Razorback faithful.”

Williams becomes the first African American head football coach in Arkansas history, marking a significant moment for the program. His appointment is seen as a move that blends continuity with fresh leadership, as the Razorbacks look to build on their foundation while pursuing new heights in the competitive SEC landscape.

An introductory press conference is expected later this week.
