In an inspiring move that has sent ripples through both the sports world and the local community, Indiana Hoosiers men’s basketball standout Luke Goode has pledged $3.3 million to transform a historic Bloomington property into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth.
The 21-year-old forward, known for his three-point shooting and leadership on and off the court, announced the initiative early Monday morning during a press conference held just outside the home that will soon become the “Goode Haven Youth Shelter.”
“Basketball has given me so much,” Goode said, flanked by community leaders, teammates, and local officials. “But I’ve always believed in using my platform for something bigger. There are too many young people on the streets right here in Bloomington, and it’s time we do something about it.”
The $3.3 million investment will go toward renovating the multi-story house, located near campus, into a safe and supportive shelter equipped with 20 beds, a community kitchen, counseling services, educational resources, and job training programs.
The project, which Goode has partnered on with several Indiana nonprofits and the city of Bloomington, is expected to open its doors by early 2026.
Mayor John Hamilton praised Goode’s bold vision: “This is what leadership looks like. Luke’s commitment to helping vulnerable youth will have a lasting impact on our city.”
Fans and former players across the nation have taken to social media to celebrate Goode’s move as one of the most meaningful acts of community service by a college athlete in recent memory.
Goode, now entering his senior year, emphasized that his goal isn’t just about charity—but about giving young people the same chance he got. “Everyone deserves a shot to dream, to grow, to find safety,” he said. “This shelter is just the beginning.”
