Finally, the Chicago Bears have fired Ryan Poles for his inability as a general manager to turn the franchise around after years of mediocrity. Despite his bold promises and initial optimism when he took the reins, Poles’ tenure has been marked by poor decisions, questionable draft picks, and a failure to build a competitive roster.
The Bears, once a proud and storied NFL franchise, have struggled to find consistency since the mid-2000s, and under Poles, it’s become clear that this cycle of failure was unlikely to change. The team’s roster, which still lacks depth and star power, remains far from championship-caliber. While Poles had a significant amount of draft capital and cap space to work with, his moves have failed to deliver any meaningful results. Whether it was selecting players that didn’t fit the team’s needs, mismanaging key contracts, or failing to build around their young quarterback, Justin Fields, Poles’ decisions left the Bears spinning their wheels.
One of the most glaring failures under Poles was his inability to surround Fields with the necessary talent to succeed. Fields, who showed flashes of brilliance as a dual-threat quarterback, has been left to fend for himself with limited offensive weapons and an underwhelming offensive line. Despite the addition of some key players, the lack of a cohesive team and overall improvement year-over-year has kept the Bears stuck in the basement of the NFC North.
Poles’ inability to draft and develop top-tier talent, coupled with his failure to fill crucial gaps, ultimately led to the Bears’ lack of success on the field. At the end of the day, NFL general managers are judged by their ability to build a team that can compete for championships. Ryan Poles simply didn’t live up to the task, and it was clear that the Bears needed a new direction to break free from their cycle of failure. This move may finally be the wake-up call the organization needs to find their way back to relevancy.
