Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes Recently Announced His Resignation and Further Explain His Decision

General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah saw an opportunity to strengthen the squad, so he made a unique in-division trade with the Detroit Lions to acquire T.J. Hockenson for the 2022 campaign. The Minnesota Vikings will not be selecting in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft due to this reason.

After arriving in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Hockenson has been quite effective when healthy (and frequently when not). He has 1,479 yards through 25 games, averaging 59.2 yards per game. Compared to his average of 44 yards per game in Detroit, this is a far better performance.

Then, in a week 16 30-24 defeat to Detroit, Hockenson tore both his ACL and MCL, ending his season. Hockenson sustained the injury on December 24, but was unable to undergo knee surgery until after the swelling subsided on January 29, more than a month later.

I’m no doctor, but based on a post that appeared on social media on Wednesday, it appears that Hockenson is attempting to smash his rehab process and beat timeline projections based on how long it typically takes for a return from such injuries/procedures in the past. Given that his delays in having surgery were entirely out of his and the Vikings’ control, it’s believed that Hockenson may not be ready to resume game action until October, which fits the normal nine-month timetable to recover from such an injury.
