John Force won’t be driving for the remainder of the season as he recovers from a traumatic brain injury sustained in a car accident in Virginia last month, but he might be a candidate for another Accident.

NHRA News: John Force out of intensive care; improving

This week, 18-time Funny Car champion Jack Beckman was confirmed by John Force Racing CEO Robert Hight to drive for Force for the remainder of the season.
Teams are permitted under NHRA regulations to use a backup driver for up to eight races, who can earn points in lieu of the primary driver.

At the time of his June 23 engine explosion and subsequent collision with the barriers in Virginia, Force was second in points behind teammate Austin Prock. Force is currently sixth in the standings after missing all of the races.

Even though he won’t be driving for the remainder of the season to recuperate from a traumatic brain injury sustained in a crash in Virginia last month, John Force might be a contender for another Funny Car championship.

Robert Hight, CEO of John Force Racing, revealed this week that 16-time Funny Car champion Jack Beckman will drive for Force for the remainder of the season.

For a maximum of eight races, teams may substitute a driver according to NHRA rules, who can earn points in lieu of the original driver.

When Force’s engine blew on June 23 in Virginia and he collided with the walls, he was second in points behind teammate Austin Prock. Force is currently sixth in the standings and hasn’t competed since then.
