On satuday Berube will make his official media debut in Toronto.

Berube entered the market on December 12, 2023, when he was fired by the St. Louis Blues, during a turbulent period for NHL bench managers. He was most recognized for leading the St. Louis Blues, who had hired him as an interim head coach halfway through the 2018–19 season, from the bottom of the league to the team’s first-ever Stanley Cup.

But the Blues had trouble building on that triumph. Their last previous postseason victory came in a six-game series against the Minnesota Wild in the 2022 playoffs’ opening round. Then, in the 2022–2023 regular season, they fell short of the playoffs for the first time, dropping 28 points in the regular-season rankings.
