In his 17 seasons leading the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mike Tomlin has never experienced a losing season; however, it is not yet known if he will return for an 18th.
The Steelers’ sixth straight season without a postseason victory came to an end during Super Wild Card Weekend when they were defeated by the Buffalo Bills. They haven’t won the championship since Tomlin won his only ring in his second season in 2008, haven’t made it to the AFC Championship Game since 2016, and haven’t made it to the Super Bowl since 2010.

According to sources who spoke with NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, Tomlin informed Steelers players on Tuesday that “the speculation about him is unfounded and he plans on coaching the team in 2024.” However, should the Steelers decide to break ways with the 51-year-old, they will suddenly find themselves in the unusual position of having to look for a new head coach.
Since Chuck Noll was appointed head coach in Pittsburgh in 1969, Tomlin was only the third coach to assume that position. The franchise has a lot of appeal, so if a position opens up this hiring cycle, some of the best applicants should show strong interest.
