Former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski delivered his own distinct flourish to the ceremonial first pitch during the Red Sox’s annual Patriots’ Day game against the Guardians on Monday, much to the pleasure of the Fenway crowd.

Gronkowski, who worked as the Boston Marathon marshal on Monday morning, never delivered the ball to the catcher, instead spiking it violently on the mound.

Of course, the Gronk Spike was Gronkowski’s iconic touchdown celebration throughout his NFL career, which lasted from 2010 to 21 and included nine seasons with the Patriots.

The Boston Red Sox are off to an odd start to the season, filled with breakout campaigns but hampered by a litany of injuries across the diamond.
