The Chicago Bears have two first-round selections in the upcoming NFL draft. It’s quite safe to say they won’t be touching their first one–the overall number one, with which they’ll most likely select Caleb Williams, a highly rated and touted quarterback prospect from USC.

But what about the second pick, at number nine? That one is virtually shouting, “Trade me.” That is especially true for a Bears head office with only four picks in this year’s draft and, presumably, a strong desire to increase draft capital.

So it’s not that unlikely that Chicago will trade their second first-round pick and move back in the draft for an additional draft pick or two. One of the teams most frequently linked to such a trade is the quarterback-needy Las Vegas Raiders, who presently have the 13th selection in the first round but will most likely not be able to take any of the top quarterback prospects.

Joe Tansey of Bleacher Report recently proposed a scenario in which the Raiders negotiate a deal with the Bears to move up to No. 9 if a top quarterback is still available at the time.

The argument is sound, but it only makes sense for the Raiders if a high-value quarterback is still available when the Bears make their second first-round pick. Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels will undoubtedly be gone by the ninth spot, but there’s J.J. McCarthy and, possibly, Michael Penix Jr.

The Raiders are expected to go “all in” on McCarthy if/when he is still available, even if it means giving up a number of draft selections to get him.
