The beloved former Red Sox great outfielder was unable to sign with an MLB club in Spring Training.

Good Luck, Jackie Bradley Jr. After debunking summer rumors that he was about to retire, the beloved former Red Sox great outfielder was unable to sign with an MLB club in Spring Training, but he is out to prove he still has something left in the tank. The Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League, an independent team, signed Bradley on Thursday.

Bradley was never exactly the bat the Red Sox envisioned, but he was undoubtedly a defensive star, winning a Gold Glove award in 2018 and posting a career fielding percentage of.991 with 72 outfield assists.

In 2016, he was named an All-Star after batting.267 with a career-high OPS of.835. Bradley began the season on an improbable 29-game hitting streak, the fourth-longest in franchise history. Bradley hit 26 home runs, 87 RBIs, and scored 94 runs that season, all career highs.

Bradley spent eight years with the Red Sox before departing for Milwaukee in 2021. He moved to Toronto in 2022, although he concluded the season with the Red Sox. He played 43 games for the Royals last year at the age of 33, but he only hit.133 in 113 plate appearances and appeared to be a big-leaguer.

Bradley’s Red Sox career was undoubtedly highlighted by the A.L. Championship Series in 2018, which led to the team’s World Series victory over the Dodgers that year. Bradley blasted a three-run double in Game 2 at Fenway Park, converting a 4-2 deficit against the Astros into a 5-4 Red Sox lead, which they would not surrender.

Bradley was the hero again in Game 3 in Houston, when his grand slam in the eighth inning converted a close 4-2 game into an 8-2 romp. In Game 4, Bradley’s two-out home run in the top of the sixth inning gave the Red Sox a 6-5 lead and carried them to their third consecutive series win.
