ORLANDO, Florida — Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel announced Monday that the organization has extended an offer to free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
“We did make him an offer, and business takes time, especially with players like Odell, who’s had a phenomenal career and still has really good football in front of him, as well as options,” McDaniel told reporters at the NFL’s annual meetings in Orlando. “I expect such conversations will continue. “We’ll see where they go.”
The Dolphins are seeking for a No. 3 receiver to join Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
Beckham, 31, was a former first-round draft pick and three-time Pro Bowl receiver. In 2014, he was named the NFL’s offensive rookie of the year for the New York Giants.
After five seasons with the Giants, Beckham joined the Cleveland Browns in 2019. He was released in November 2021 after his father chastised the team on social media for how his kid was used in the Browns offense.
Beckham then spent the season with the Los Angeles Rams, helping them win Super Bowl LVI, before sitting out the 2022 season. He spent last season with the Baltimore Ravens.
Although Beckham has 7,932 yards and 59 touchdowns, the NFL veteran has not had double-digit touchdown catches since 2016.
“I don’t live in the world of crystal balling and I do stay in my lane as a coach,” McDaniel said in an interview. “I’m totally willing to coach him if we can reach a deal, and I believe both sides are working toward that. “We will see what happens.”
