Marc Marquez Announced His Resignation From 2024 MotoGP World Championship and explain decision
In front of this weekend’s second round of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship, Marc Marquez has already made history by winning the first free practice for the Portuguese MotoGP in a cool and cloudy Portimao.
As he maintained his good transition to his new Gresini Ducati GP23, Marquez beat Brad Binder and Maverick Vinales to top the timesheets with his very last attempt after the chequered flag was flown.
Marquez, who began on pole for Honda at Portimao in 2023, arrived in Portugal with high hopes of challenging for the podium after finishing fourth on his Ducati debut in Qatar. He would spend the second half of the session steadily rising to the top of the timesheets as a changing surface gradually dried.
But in the final moments, Marquez—using a tow from Joan Mir—would go faster by a clear two tenths of a second to maintain the lead after being passed by Binder and then Vinales.
Even though he was suffering from a sickness, Vinales persevered to win the Aprilia challenge in second position. Binder, who had spent the initial part of the session testing out new aero devices, finished in third place, just ahead of Jack Miller, his teammate at KTM Factory Racing, in fourth.

After the Pramac duo, homegrown hero Miguel Oliveira gets off to a strong start in eighth place, while Alex Rins, who ran comfortably inside the top three for the whole of the practice, lifted morale in the Monster Energy Yamaha Racing camp with the seventh quickest time. Alex Marquez and Mir, riding Gresini Ducati and Repsol Honda bikes, respectively, rounded out the top 10.
