Great deal: NY Islanders are Considering of signing Draft Pick Alex Jefferies to Entry level Contract

Draft pick Alex Jefferies is expected to sign an entry-level contract with the NY Islanders.

According to Mike McMahon of College Hockey News, Alex Jefferies, a prominent player at Merrimack College, will sign an ELC with the Islanders for the 2024–25 season, strengthening the prospect pool for the NY Islanders.

Throughout his four seasons with the Warriors, Jefferies has been a standout performer at Merrick College. In 2020, the Islanders selected him in the fourth round. Jefferies started his collegiate career in 2020 and finished 27th on the school’s all-time scoring chart with 97 points (41 G, 56 A) across 105 games.

The 6’0″ and 195-pound winger Jefferies scored 13 goals in his senior year, one less than his career-high of 14 goals from the previous season, despite missing the first half of the campaign due to injury. In terms of points per game, he has placed 27th and 35th among all NCAA players during the past two seasons.

In order to throw his opponents off balance, Jefferies uses speed in his game. He then uses vision to choose his next move. Though his reputation is mostly as a puck distributor, he has five multi-goal games in his career to show that he can also find the back of the net.

Although Jefferies, who is 22 years old, won’t fit the mold of the traditional AHL rookie, McMahon claims that the native of Framingham, Massachusetts, “is the most NHL-ready player I’ve covered in 17 years of covering Merrimack.” Jefferies is powerful, large, skilled, and an excellent skater.”
