Breaking : The Baltimore Ravens have reached a four-year contract extension agreement with defensive tackle

The Baltimore Ravens wasted no time in protecting their defensive juggernaut, Justin Madubuike, by signing a four-year contract deal with him on Friday, following the recent franchise tag designation.

“Justin is one of the best defensive tackles in the entire NFL and a cornerstone of our defense,” said general manager Eric DeCosta. “We are thrilled for Justin and his family, as well as for our fan base. “This is an excellent way to begin the new league season!”

With the new league year beginning next Wednesday, the Ravens acted quickly to assure Madubuike’s continuance on the team. After first assigning him the franchise tag, DeCosta stated that the organization intended to negotiate a long-term contract, which they quickly accomplished.

Last season, a similar technique was used with star quarterback Lamar Jackson, who signed a long-term contract after being tagged.

The rapid conclusion follows a recent pattern, as seen with Chicago’s Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson, who also agreed to a four-year contract after receiving the franchise tag.

Madubuike’s outstanding performance last season, which included 13 sacks, helped pave the way for his hefty deal. Drafted in the third round in 2020, he quickly rose to a regular starting position, with his sack total improving year after year.

In 2023, he was named second-team All-Pro, capping up an outstanding season in which he tied an NFL record by recording at least a half-sack in 11 straight games.

As the Ravens prepare for the offseason, keeping Madubuike is a critical step in a landscape of approaching free agents, including linebacker Patrick Queen, edge rushers Jadeveon Clowney and Kyle Van Noy, and running backs J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards.
