The Packers have the receiver depth to overcome the loss of Christian Watson, but the big-play threat will…

The Packers still have a lot of receiving depth, so the loss of Christian Watson won’t have a significant impact, but the big-play threat will undoubtedly be felt. Watson’s speed and ability to stretch the field made him a vital component of the Green Bay attack. His ability to break up deep routes forced defenses to adjust, giving other receivers and the running game additional space.

Watson’s absence will force the Packers to rely on their depth. It will be necessary for players like Romeo Doubts and Jayden Reed to significantly improve. Doubs showed promise last season, showcasing terrific handles and good route-running skills. Though he doesn’t have Watson’s lightning-fast speed, he could become a reliable target. Doubs will have to be more than simply a possession receiver; he needs to learn how to get yards after the catch and find a way to go past deep coverage.

Reed has had flashes of brilliance even as a youngster. The dynamic aspect of the passing game may depend on his ability to break loose from opponents. But he will go through the typical growing pains that come with entering the league as a rookie. If Reed can get close to quarterback Jordan Love, he can develop into a reliable option, but his inexperience might limit the offense’s explosiveness.

The Packers may also see the return of veteran alternatives like Sammy Watkins and experienced guys like Randall Cobb, who can provide consistency and experience. Nevertheless, none of them offers Watson’s big-play ability. This means the Packers could have to change their offensive plan so that they rely less on big plays and more on calculated drives.

To maintain offensive balance, Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon’s running game will also be essential. If the ground game can take hold, the receivers will have more play-action opportunities to find space downfield.

The Packers have enough depth to get by without Watson, but they need to find a true offensive replacement if they are to succeed in the future.
