In just two seasons, he scored 1,706 points, including an unprecedented 1,030 points in a single season—a record that still stands. He led the Boilermakers to an Elite Eight appearance and was the first Purdue player to win the John R. Wooden Award, given to the nation’s top collegiate player. His impact on the program was so profound that he was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017 .
