Eric Dier has contract extended and targets trophies with Harry Kane at Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich announced on Saturday that Eric Dier’s loan transfer from Tottenham to the Bavarian team had become permanent.

Dier stunned everyone by signing a short-term contract with Bayern in January. His contract automatically extended, therefore he will now be spending a second season at the Allianz Arena.

The former England defender finished the 90 minutes of Friday’s 2-2 draw away to Freiburg to meet the necessary number of appearances for his contract to be renewed. The former England defender has participated in seven Bundesliga games for Bayern, including five starts for Thomas Tuchel’s team.

“Eric Dier’s contract has been extended by a further year after making a certain number of appearances,” stated Max Eberl, a board member for sport at Bayern.

After his predicament was finally settled for the upcoming year, Dier declared, “I’m happy in Munich.” Even though it’s been a challenging time for us, now that my future is secured, I can concentrate on playing well for the team and attempting to assist the team win games and competitions.”

Bayern has won the Bundesliga for the previous eleven seasons, but if leaders Bayer Leverkusen defeat FC Koln on Sunday, the Bavarians may find themselves ten points behind.

After losing the first leg 1-0 in Rome, the Bavarians play Lazio at home on Tuesday in a crucial Champions League round of 16 match.

With the Bundesliga already appearing to be challenging, Bayern’s best chance of winning a trophy this year may lie in the Champions League.

At the end of the season, Tuchel will be departing from the team. Bayern has not yet revealed who would succeed him.
