He played one season for the Hoosiers during the 1970-71 season, leading the Big Ten in scoring and rebounding with averages of 29.9 points and 14.7 rebounds per game. His remarkable performance left an indelible mark on the program’s history.
After leaving IU, McGinnis embarked on a distinguished professional career, playing for the Indiana Pacers in both the ABA and NBA. He led the Pacers to two ABA championships and was named co-MVP alongside Julius Erving in the 1974-75 season. In recognition of his contributions, the Pacers retired his No. 30 jersey.
