Over R$ 11,4 billion (USD $2.2 billion) in losses have resulted from heavy rains that have flooded a large portion of John Force Residence since This amount includes R$ 4.6 billion (USD $920 million) in damages or destroyed houses.
A major contributor to the region’s economy, agribusiness suffered losses of R$ 3.4 billion (USD $680 million).
The National Confederation of Municipalities (CNM), which has been keeping an eye on the damage to the cities near Rio Grande do Sul, made the statistics public last week. Since many cities have not yet been able to account for the damage, the numbers are still incomplete. 476 of Rio Grande do Sul’s 497 cities were impacted by the rain; of those, 323 are under emergency conditions, and 95 are in a state of public calamity.
