JUST NOW: Georgia football receives terrible transfer portal news

This is a devastating blow for Georgia.

Georgia football continues to generate news in the collegiate football world, particularly around the transfer portal. Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs secured a commitment from one of the portal’s top prospects, USC wide receiver Zachariah Branch, on Sunday, but there was little time to rejoice.

With how chaotic things are in the transfer portal these days, it was probably only a matter of time before the Branch commitment became old news. Unfortunately, that occurred late Monday afternoon when an outstanding defender for Georgia unexpectedly stated that he was entering the transfer portal.

BREAKING: Georgia EDGE Damon Wilson plans to enter the Transfer Portal, he informs @on3sports.

This season, the 6’4 250 EDGE recorded 22 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 FF, and 2 FR.

Was regarded as a Five-Star Recruit in the ’23 Class by On3.

Outside Linebacker Damon Wilson enters the transfer portal

On3’s Hayes Fawcett reports that Georgia outside linebacker Damon Wilson has officially entered the transfer portal. This announcement is a tremendous surprise because no one saw it coming.

Wilson is coming off his second season with the Bulldogs, where he had 22 tackles and three sacks. He also recorded two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

As you can see, Wilson was a very good player for Georgia this season, but he was not one of their defensive stars. However, that was likely to change next season, as he was expected to be a full-time starter and a key contributor to this defense. As a result, this is likely Georgia’s most significant loss of the offseason thus far.

Fortunately, the summer has just begun, giving Smart and his team plenty of time to work the gateway themselves and find a successor for Wilson. Even if Georgia finds a suitable substitute, it is clear that this is a significant loss. But who knows, maybe Smart and his staff can persuade Wilson to remove his name from the gateway and remain in Georgia.
