Panthers to trade WR Jonathan Mingo & 2025 7th-round draft pick to Cowboys for 2025 4th-round pick…

In a surprising move, the Carolina Panthers have traded second-year wide receiver Jonathan Mingo and a 2025 7th-round draft pick to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2025 4th-round draft pick. The deal marks a significant shift in the Panthers’ receiving corps and an effort to bolster their future draft capital.

Mingo, drafted in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, has shown flashes of potential but has struggled to make a consistent impact during his early career. The 6’2″, 220-pound receiver flashed impressive physical traits during his time at Ole Miss, but in his first season with the Panthers, Mingo has had difficulty establishing a clear role in the offense. Despite his potential, Carolina’s offense has seen struggles this season, and the team has opted to part ways with the former top draft choice to capitalize on the trade value while it’s still there.

For the Cowboys, Mingo represents a long-term investment. Dallas has been looking to strengthen its receiving group behind star wideout CeeDee Lamb, and the 22-year-old Mingo could eventually emerge as a key contributor alongside Michael Gallup and Brandin Cooks. With Mingo’s physical tools and untapped upside, the Cowboys hope to develop him into a reliable weapon for quarterback Dak Prescott, as they look to build a more dynamic offense for the future.

The Panthers, in turn, gain an important asset for the 2025 draft. By securing an additional fourth-round pick, Carolina continues its rebuilding efforts, looking to replenish their roster with young talent in a deep draft class. The Panthers, currently in the midst of a rebuild under first-year head coach Frank Reich, are focused on creating long-term stability and will likely continue to prioritize draft picks as they build their future around rookie quarterback Bryce Young.

While Mingo’s time in Carolina was brief, this trade represents a shift in philosophy, with both teams aiming to improve their outlooks for the next few seasons.
