Two hours ago, Mathew Knies, an NHL player for seven seasons, passed away. 21 was his age.

Had 286 points (160 goals, 126 assists) in 502 regular-season games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Phoenix Coyotes, Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Blackhawks, and Washington Capitals. He was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 10th round (No. 256) of the 1994 NHL Draft. In 52 Stanley Cup Playoff games, he also finished with 30 points (13 goals and 17 assists)

Leading all rookies in 1996–97 with 25 goals, he finished sixth in 73 games with 41 points. In 1998–99, he posted an NHL career-high 37 goals and 59 points in 76 games, making it his finest season to date. After that, he scored 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists).
