BREAKING: Nick Saban admits Florida State ‘did everything they could’ to get into College Football Playoff after his Alabama team beat…

Nick Saban Admits Honestly About FSU’s Rejection in the College Football Playoffs

On Saturday afternoon, former Alabama coach Nick Saban made his first appearance on College Gameday and wanted to get one thing off his chest. Before the 2024–25 college football season got underway with a sneak peek, Nick Saban spoke with ESPN experts Pat McAfee, Rece Davis, and others about the forthcoming schedule.
Among the subjects covered was Saban’s previous team, Alabama, beating Florida State in the College Football Playoffs the previous year despite the Seminoles’ perfect record. In expressing his opinions about the FSU rejection, Saban cleared colleague analyst Kirk Herbstreit of any wrongdoing.

“I just want to let Kirk [Herbstreit] know that when we won the Playoffs, I got a ton of calls,” Saban remarked. He and I both didn’t have anything to do with their failure to qualify for the playoffs, but we still took a beating. At least we won’t be in that predicament this year, so I’m glad we got in. They probably should have, too.
Even though ESPN commentator Mark Herbstreit had earlier applauded the CFP committee’s decision to remove the Seminoles, FSU fans in attendance in Dublin made sure he heard their impassioned jeers.

The CFP committee had an extremely tough job last season deciding which of the six competing teams should have received the four postseason invitations. In the end, the committee decided to exclude the Seminoles, who finished the regular season unbeaten despite senior quarterback Jordan Travis’s season-ending injury in November. Rather than winning, Alabama lost to Michigan in the CFP semifinals.
