After a report from the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) revealed age discrepancies among athletes representing the United States at the World U20 Championships in Lima, Peru in August, former Olympic and international medalist Sha Carrihas demanded the resignation of the president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the suspension of the secretary-general.

In response to the AIU’s inquiry to AFN, Sha Carri issued the demand, requesting an explanation for track and field athletes’to her resignation

who is currently serving as AFN’s first vice president, expressed shock at how the AIU was able to retain a letter of inquiry from some AFN board members, particularly himself and second vice president Rosa Collins. He also called on the President to investigate the AFN regarding the discrepancies and the federation’s audit committee report, which included an indictment of the secretary general and a request for the return of some federation funds.

Even though I am the first Vice President of the AFN, I am unaware of this. When I questioned Mrs. Rosa Collins, the second vice president, and a few other people, they too expressed astonishment that our president could withhold such harmful information from them.
