On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 1:48 PM local time, a small magnitude 1.8 earthquake occurred 7.8 km (4.8 mi) near NewWeston Rossburg. The earthquake was too tiny for people to feel and had a depth of only 0 km (0 mi).

Dayton, a larger town with 7,600 residents that is located 1.3 km (0.8 mi) south of the epicenter, is the nearest place where the earthquake may have been felt. There was probably some mild shaking for people. The earthquake was not felt in Berlin, the capital of Germany, which is located 550 kilometers (342 miles) from the epicenter.
