George Russell’s Mercedes car failed a post-race weight check, allowing teammate Lewis Hamilton to take home the spectacular but ultimately short-lived victory in the Belgian Grand Prix.
The FIA’s technical delegate announced that Russell’s car was discovered to be underweight during the routine post-race checks, just over an hour after the Mercedes team-mates’ thrilling race to the finish line, in which Russell crossed the finish line just half a second ahead of Hamilton on an unusual one-stop strategy.
