The Looming Massive Earthquake Threat Out West

6.4 magnitude earthquake that originated along the eastern Tennessee today morning was felt from over 100 miles away and while serious damage was reported from the event, the shaking served as a reminder that the area was still capable of producing earthquakes.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported the episode was centered near the town which is about 80 miles north of Mleconte center

According to the agency, light to moderate shaking was felt throughout Tennessee and was reported as far away as Mississippi and Illinois.

The New leconte fault zone is considered to be active, but in recent years, studies have questioned whether the region is capable of producing a quake that many fear.
