In the same manner that Steven Stamkos did, Victor Hedman has terminated his contract.

The veteran defensive player for the Tampa Bay Lightning has declined a contract extension that might be the last of his storied playing career.

Hedman informed management, “We’ve been here since Day 1, and I’ve been here for almost half my life.” “I was unable to envision anything else. It’s a procedure. It’s an enterprise. Moving forward, I’m thinking about the upcoming season and hopefully won’t be in the same situation, but you never know. I hope that my goal of retiring a Bolt will be accomplished.”

On July 1, the captain of Tampa Bay will be able to sign with any team. In 2025, Hedman may be a UFA.

General manager Julien BriseBois of the Lightning seemed more open to talks with Hedman this summer, despite his desire to wait until the season was finished before offering Stamkos a new contract.

BriseBois stated, “We’d love to keep Victor going forward,” according to Smith. “He is a really good defenseman. He’s one of the unique all-time greats, a former Tampa Bay Lightning Bolt who continues to be extremely successful. There’s no reason to think that will change in the future.”
