Josef Newgarden’s currently terminate his deal with Team Penske who working on a contract extension to keep him in the No. 2 Chevy.
Tim Cindric, the president of Team Penske, said RACER, “I think we are making good progress.”
After joining Penske in 2017, Newgarden has achieved the most success in IndyCar, having won the Indianapolis 500 in 2023 along with titles in 2017 and ’19. Newgarden is rumored to have looked into free agency in an attempt to obtain a higher salary, and as RACER discovered this weekend from one of his possible destinations in the paddock, the beleaguered 33-year-old is expected to remain with the Cindric-led squad in 2025. It’s unclear if the Tennessean wants to stay with the team for a single or more yearsBrown’s impression on hybrid IndyCars is overwhelmingly favorable.
This week, Newgarden’s chances of winning the championship were dealt a blow when it was discovered that he had improperly used the push-to-pass mechanism in IndyCar, which was turned off for other teams during starts and restarts. This occurred during the race in St. Petersburg.
