Tiger Woods ‘rejects invitation’ to captain US Ryder Cup team

On Tuesday in New York, the PGA of America will unveil the captain of the 2025 US Ryder Cup, and Tiger Woods is unlikely to be chosen. Woods was widely regarded as the leading candidate for the position, but according to media reports on Monday, he denied the invitation.

According to the story, Woods wanted to minimize his role as captain, but he and the PGA of America couldn’t agree on what that would mean. According to Sports Illustrated, Keegan Bradley will serve as captain. The 38-year-old golfer competed in the Ryder Cup in 2012 and 2014.

Other candidates include former captains Zach Johnson (2023), Steve Stricker (2021), Jim Furyk (2018), and Davis Love III (2016), as well as Fred Couples, Stewart Cink, Matt Kuchar, Rickie Fowler, and Phil Mickelson.

The biennial competition will be held from September 26 to 28, 2025, at Bethpage Black on Long Island, New York. Luke Donald returns as European captain, having led his country to victory in Rome in 2023.
