The waters may be calm at Conley Bottom Marina on Lake Cumberland now, but last weekend was a different story.

“We just have all hands on-deck,” said Matthew Bertram, assistant dock manager. “Most of the workers down here are working six, seven days a week to get things back to normal.”

While no one was reported hurt at the marina, there was a significant amount of structural damage; a BB dock collapsed, a police ranger boat was left heavily damaged, and a number of boats were impacted.

“Other than that, it’s business as usual right now,” said Bertram. “Our restaurant is still fully operational, the store is fully operational, we had rentals go out today, we even had rentals going out that Monday, the day that it happened.”

Some visitors are pleasantly surprised with the progress that has been made in just one week.

“Damage wise, Conley has done an outstanding job of cleaning this up because the trees were down, and the boats were out there,” said Martin Kennedy, a local visitor. “It was one terrific storm.”

For Conley Bottom, working on repairs is not a process that they are going through alone.

“Whether they have catered food to us or come down with their own trucks and chainsaws and trailers and helped us to clean up this mess, it’s really been a community effort,” said Bertram.

Bertram said they do not have an estimate for how much it will cost to repair all of the damage.
