Webb Simpson shares heartbreaking Grayson Murray story as PGA Tour honour late star

Webb Simpson said that his connection was only beginning to develop with Grayson Murray, which led to a painful tribute after learning of the 30-year-old’s passing.

Following the unexpected and abrupt death of golfer Grayson Murray, Webb Simpson told a narrative about the talented 30-year-old with whom he had grown close over the previous 12 months.

The PGA Tour revealed on Saturday that Murray had died, just 24 hours after withdrawing from the Charles Schwab Challenge. Murray’s parents requested that the competition continue in his absence, believing that the golfer would have wanted to play.

The family also requested that players wear red and black ribbons on Sunday to honor Murray, who wore the colors of his hometown National Hockey League team, the Carolina Hurricanes, when playing on Sunday.

Naturally, the competition became a site of sadness, as eventual champion Davis Riley highlighted during his victory speech. “Obviously, a very sad day for the golf world. Riley said on CBS after his triumph, “My heart goes out to him and his family.” “There was obviously a little more to play for today.”

However, before to Riley’s victory on Sunday, rival competitor Simpson shared memories of Murray in his own personal homage to the late golfer. “Obviously it was a great shock; my heart fell,” Simpson told CBS.

“I’ve had a junior event for 14 years, the Webb Simpson Challenge, and he was the first to win. I recall that day like it was yesterday when he received the prize. I felt he was going to be a terrific player from the beginning.

“And I simply played with him in Charlotte for the first two days, and we had a great time, and his game looked good, but I just hated it.” I despise it so much. I’ve gotten to know him much better this year.

Caroline Wozniacki responds to Brooks Koepka’s wife’s post following Rory McIlroy’s divorce, revealing four new details.

“We had a supper at Pebble Beach with his fiancee, and I know she is hurting, as is everyone affiliated with Grayson Murray… I hate it, and I miss him, but I’m glad he was in a position of faith before this morning (Saturday) happened.”

Hundreds of golfers have subsequently paid their respects at this terrible moment, and an emotional Peter Malnati moved the sports world with his tribute, which truly put life into perspective. “This is going to be incredibly hard. I didn’t know Grayson very well, but I’ve spent the last few days with him, and it’s hilarious… we get so worked up out here about a terrible break here or a fantastic break there,” he explained.

“You know, we are quite competitive out here. We all want to defeat each other. And then something like this occurs, and you realize we’re all just humans.

“This is just a really, really difficult day because when you look at Grayson, you see someone who has visibly, overtly struggled in the past, and he has been honest about it. And you see him regain control of his life and feel good about it. It is simply very sad.”
