Heartbreak Strikes: Detroit Tigers Suffer Another Blow as Key Pitcher Departs, Leaving Fans in Tears!

DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers lost another player on waivers to the New York Mets.

The Mets claimed right-hander Ty Adcock on Thursday after the Tigers designated him for assignment five days earlier.

It is the Mets’ third player acquired from the Tigers in the in seven months. The Mets acquired left-handed reliever Kolton Ingram in February and infielder Zack Short in November.

Ingram is now with the St. Louis Cardinals, while Short is with the Braves.

Last month, the Tigers claimed Adcock from the Seattle Mariners and optioned him to Triple-A Toledo. He gave six runs on nine hits in six innings for the Mud Hens, striking out three and walking nine.

On May 18, the Tigers removed him from the 40-man roster in favor of left-hander Easton Lucas, whom they claimed off waivers from the Athletics.

The Mariners drafted Adcock, 27, in the eighth round out of Elon University in 2019.

He made his major league debut last year and had a 3.45 ERA in 15 2/3 innings. According to Baseball Savant, he is largely a two-pitch pitcher, with his most productive pitch being a 96 mph fastball. Last year, he allowed all four home runs with his slider.

Adcock played catcher and outfield in college, but has only pitched in professional baseball.

Adcock had never been outrighted in his career, thus the Tigers could have kept him if he cleared waivers. Instead, he’ll report to Triple-A Syracuse, the Mets’ top affiliate.
