Former Phoenix Suns assistant Willie Green named as New Orleans Pelicans head coach | NBA News | Sky Sports

“Willie has made a name for himself as one of the NBA’s most reputable assistant coaches. “A strong work ethic and genuine character are largely to blame for this,” stated David Griffin, the Pelicans’ executive vice president of basketball operations. As a coach and former player, he adds a wealth of basketball knowledge and experience to our squad. He also possesses great leadership abilities and a natural ability to connect with players, staff, and fans. We are thrilled to have Willie and his family visit New Orleans.

Stan Van Gundy, who unexpectedly left the Pelicans in June after just one season, is being replaced by Green. Green will be the third-youngest head coach in history at the age of 39.

Throughout his 12-year NBA career, Green made seven postseason visits. He even performed it once during his one-season stint as a player for the Pelicans, who were then known as the Hornets. In their 19-year existence, the Pelicans have only made a small number of postseason trips. This one was one of them.
