Gayle Benson, the governor of the Pelicans and owner of the New Orleans Saints, announced today a game-changing donation to the Good Shepherd School (GSS) to cap off her yearly “Month of Giving” efforts. The donation will support the opening of The Gayle and Tom Benson Good Shepherd School – Giving Hope Campus, the Good Shepherd School’s second facility on Desire Street.

Established in 2001 by the late Fr. Harry Tompson, the Good Shepherd School offers low-income urban adolescents an extended day, year-round, high-quality, faith-based education that empowers them to realize their full potential. Additionally, the institution offers assistance and direction to help break the cycle of generational poverty through college and beyond.

According to Gayle Benson, “education is the key that unlocks a world of possibilities.” “By giving to the Good Shepherd School, I aim to give the kids of New Orleans a foundation for a bright and promising future in addition to an education. Every child should have the chance to flourish, and by providing our children with a faith-based education, we can enable them to reach their potential and inspire future generations. Since I support the Good Shepherd School’s efforts and goals and they are looking to expand into Desire, Florida, to better serve even more kids and families, I felt that now was the right moment to take action.”
