Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha: son Aiyawatt promises to continue Leicester owner's 'big dreams' after helicopter crash | South China Morning Post

The owner of Leicester City Football Club, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, has a son who claims his father ‘would never have risked his life’ if he had known the plane he died in was not safe.

The horrific October 2018 disaster that also took the lives of co-pilot Eric Swaffer and his girlfriend Izabela Roza Lechowicz, as well as colleagues Nursara Suknamai and Kaveporn Punpare, killed the rich Thai.

Despite the veteran pilot’s best efforts, the Leonardo AW169 helicopter crashed to the ground shortly after taking off from the field, having risen to a height of about 430 feet.

Four of the five people on board made it through the initial hit, but after the crash caused a significant fuel leak, the helicopter quickly caught fire and none of them survived.

After the incident, the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) published a thorough study that raised major questions regarding the safety of the aircraft and Leonardo’s conduct as its manufacturer.

Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, Vichai’s son, expressed his profound sadness at the turn of events. This study presents troubling evidence against Leonardo, nearly five years after my father passed away.

“My father believed he had purchased a secure helicopter from a reputable manufacturer.” He would never have put his life in danger inside this machine if he had known what we now know.
