Miami Football Fans As They Have Reportedly Lost Seven Defensive Players through the transfer portal
Since their spring game on April 13, the Miami football program has lost seven players through the transfer portal. Four of the transfers were on defense. On Monday, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald wrote in an X post that Miami isn’t sweating any of these defensive losses. Many were informed they would not play much.
Miami lost defensive tackle Jared Harrison-Hunte, edge rushers Nyjalik Kelly and Jayden Wayne, and linebacker Kaleb Spencer via the spring transfer portal. Harrison-Hunte was the sole possible starter among the four heading into the 2024 season.
Harrison-Hunte started 22 of the 42 games he appeared in during his four seasons with Miami. Kelly played in 17 games in two seasons with Miami with all three of his starts coming in 2023. Wayne played in eight games as a true freshman in 2023 with one start. Spencer played in 11 games, primarily on special teams in 2023.
Miami added defensive tackles. C.J. Clark and Marley Cook and edge rusher Elijah Alston in the front seven during the winter transfer portal window. Expect Miami to add several more defensive linemen and at least one LB during the spring transfer portal window to replace the outgoing transfers.
As Jackson stated, Miami is clearly making adding depth to the front seven a priority this spring. Miami signed the top 2024 DL class, but they need to add experienced depth. Miami could add a potential starter through the spring transfer portal at DT and LB. This will be a critical next few weeks for Miami.
