Auburn Tigers Head Coach Hugh Freeze Terminates contract with team after Argument with Management

Baseball at Mississippi State needs a successful weekend. The opposition will be Auburn in a three-game series that the Bulldogs must win. State might definitely benefit from the sweep, but it is by no means a guarantee.

Even with their dismal SEC performance, Auburn has shown that they can slightly swing the sticks. The batting averages of the top four batters are higher than.300. Apart from that foursome, things have been quite difficult. The Auburn batting order isn’t very long, but they have some powerful hitters in the top half of the order. The second half of the SEC schedule kicks off at Dudy Noble Field tonight, thus the state pitching staff has to be strong.

For Auburn, the true difficulty has been on the mound. Tiger pitchers have had difficulty competing in the strike zone even if they haven’t exactly strolled the ball park. Pitching at Auburn has a history of producing gopher balls that have been transformed into mementos. That being said, the Tigers have faced five SEC opponents who are ranked in the top 10 in a row. The only unranked opponent Auburn has played through six SEC weekends of play will be Mississippi State.

Butch Thompson, the current head coach of Auburn and a former Bulldog assistant, has always had quality throws. This year, for whatever reason, things have just not worked out. Pitchers from Auburn have a collective ERA over 9.00 in SEC competition. Although they’ve been difficult to find thus far, something has to give eventually. Starting on Monday, Mississippi State is hoping the Tigers will fully recover.
