I’m Leaving Red Bull for Christian Horner, Max Verstappen finally Announce His Decision

Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff has made it apparent that the Dutch driver is a target to succeed outgoing Lewis Hamilton in 2025, which has put the three-time F1 World Champion at the center of speculation over his future.

In the early part of the season, following Red Bull GmbH’s inquiry into F1 team manager Christian Horner, there was talk of a surprise separation between Verstappen and Red Bull.

After the probe was dropped, Verstappen made it plain that his future with Red Bull depended on longtime advisor Helmut Marko being involved.

Verstappen demonstrated his allegiance to the Austrian when Marko hinted that he might face a suspension from Red Bull while internal inquiries into the origin of media leaks proceeded. This created an opportunity for rival teams to try to take advantage of the potential deterioration of Red Bull’s relationship with their top driver.

Wolff has not held back when expressing his desire to have Verstappen replace Hamilton, who will be joining Ferrari on a multi-year contract starting next season. However, Verstappen’s most recent remarks seem to indicate that Red Bull and he are now operating on a more even playing field since the commotion has subsided.

Verstappen was questioned by the media before to the Chinese Grand Prix about his future and the uncertainty surrounding his decision to remain with Red Bull to the end of his current deal in 2028.

“I signed a long deal with the team after 2021,” he declared.

All I ever stated, starting from the outset, is that we should have a calm, serene atmosphere.

“I believe we’ve been discussing the automobile lately, so that in itself makes me pleased. We are discussing the vehicle’s performance. It should also be that way.

“I have never had a reason to leave as long as I’m happy with the team.”
